Walden, LaMalfa, Bentz: Supreme Court must prevent uncompensated theft of Western water, Pens Op-ed in Washington Examiner, 6/18/2020. " Greg Walden, Oregon's Only Congressional Republican, Won't Run For Reelection, OPB 10/29/19 Walden talks poor air quality, extreme wildfire season during latest visit, H&N 8/3/18. Walden talks (Klamath) drought relief, education funding, mental health, H&N 3/27/18 Walden speaks out against proposed Crater Lake wilderness, H&N, posted to KBC 1/24/16. "Walden said he is 100 percent opposed to Oregon Wild’s wilderness proposal. 'It kicks the public off public land,' Walden said...'he believes a wilderness designation will be a loss for outdoor recreationists, such as bicyclists and snowmobilers, and that the land will become more fire prone because the designation calls for less forest management.' " "Too many people often don’t understand the culture and the lifestyle of the great American West" Walden: Can't condone actions of armed protesters, Guest Commentary by Reb Greg Walden, U.S. Rep 2nd District 1/13/16
1/5/16 -
Congressman Walden emotionally describes the
injustice by our federal government in the West,
and the actual small acreage of grass burned by
Hammond's backfire. You Tube, 24 minutes.
Walden compares this with the literally millions
of acres burned by out of control wildfires on
government land, yet government employees and
agencies are never held accountable when their
controlled burns and backfire on private land
gets loose. These two ranchers spent time in
prison, and now the feds decided to send them
back to prison..a 5 year term. The feds will
ultimately try to take their land as with
millions of acres they've taken from other
ranchers, forcing them into bankruptcy. Congressman Walden Press Release: Walden releases draft legislation to help solve long-running water problems in Klamath Basin, asks for input from all parties, 12/3/15 (Dam removal is not part of package).
Walden to push Basin water pact; Congressman to
sponsor new version of agreement, H&N
10/15/15. "It
will likely include the removal of the four dams
that sit on the Klamath River and have been a
source of dispute among parties who have not
signed on to the water agreement." New EPA rule muddies the water. With a pen stroke, it pushes aside ‘navigable water’ limitations, by Oregon U.S. Rep Greg Walden, 6/2/15 Getting to ‘yes’ in the Klamath Basin. Water issues prove divisive, both locally and on a national level, Congressman Greg Walden for H&N 9/28/14. "The public — the hardworking families of the Klamath Basin — is too often left out of this debate, hampering progress towards the goal...Any effort to build public support must recognize that removing all four dams is a non-starter. Most people in the Basin oppose such a plan, as do key folks in Congress..." Congressman Walden: (Klamath) Water legislation may be altered in House, H&N 5/10/14
Klamath Falls visit, Walden
hears of ‘over-reaching’ government
, H&N
4/27/14. "On
the topic of the water agreement signed
by the Klamath Tribes and the Upper
Basin irrigators, Walden said he’ll
support the bill in Congress, but “I
still have great reservations for
removing all four dams (on the Klamath
River). “It is good that the Upper Basin
folks came together and I supported
that. But the issue is that the
agreement was reached with parties
themselves, but not the public. The
public still matters in this debate. The
public has not yet
supported some element to this plan.” To
that end, Walden suggested that a Senate
bill may not make it through the House
as one single piece of legislation — as
has been proposed — but divided into
sections that may pass." State lawmakers confer in three-day session; Gail Whitsett in favor of independent OIT board. U.S. Rep Greg Walden addresses water quality rules. Klamath Tribes chairman Don Gentry visits White House, H&N 11/22/13. “President Obama has committed to following through with obligations to tribes and to honor treaties,” Gentry said. During the conference, Gentry spoke about the Mazama Forest acquisition at an economic tribal development breakout session. He said the session was an opportunity to open a dialogue about generating support and finding administrative consultants for the 90,000-acre acquisition, which is part of the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement signed in 2010." Greg Walden greets Oregon Honor Flight at the World War II Memorial, 10/5/13 Oregon U.S. Representative Greg Walden District 2, 2/27/13 As part of an “all of the above” energy strategy, Greg Walden supports bipartisan hydropower bill - 2/13/13 Rep. Greg Walden moves to kill $1 trillion coin, Oregonian, posted to KBC 1/7/13. Oregon U.S. Congressman Greg Walden Congressional Connection, posted to KBC 11/25/12. "I’m honored that my colleagues unanimously chose me to serve as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). No member of Congress from Oregon—of either party—has served in an elected leadership position in decades." U.S. Congressman Greg Walden, Providing certainty to Oregon's ranchers, predatory sea lions: 6/22/12 Greg Walden "Just found out the Department of Labor is backing off its ill-advised “Youth Ag Rule.” This is great news! Having grown up on a cherry orchard in The Dalles, I know that training the next generation of farmers and ranchers is a must if we want a stable food supply. The rule, which received heavy criticism from the farm and ranch community, would have discouraged young people from staying on the farm and made it impossible for programs like FFA and 4-H to continue giving kids important hands-on experience in agriculture. In announcing the reversal, the Department of Labor said they will work with rural stakeholders in the future. They also said they withdrew the rule in response to thousands of comments expressing concern. Working together, we did it! Thanks to all who were vocal on this issue."
