Greg Walden greets Oregon Honor Flight at the
World War II Memorial 10/5/13 Good morning— This morning, U.S. Rep. Greg Walden greeted about 50 World War II veterans from Oregon who had travelled to Washington, D.C. as part of an “Honor Flight” to visit the World War II Memorial on the National Mall. Although the open-air Memorial has been closed by the Administration during the government shutdown, the National Park Police allowed the veterans and their families to enter the Memorial. Greg’s colleague from Oregon, Rep. Peter DeFazio, was also on hand to greet the veterans and present them with American flags flown over the Capitol. Each of these men and women who served is a hero, and it is always a pleasure to welcome members of the “Greatest Generation” to the Nation’s Capital. Two photos of the visit are attached. The bill would provide funding to all of our national parks and museums, from the World War II Memorial to Crater Lake. Greg has also supported bills passed by the House this week to provide funding for veterans’ programs, pay our Guard and Reserve troops, and continue lifesaving research at the National Institute of Health. All passed the House with strong bipartisan support, and are being held up in the Senate by Majority Leader Harry Reid. The House also passed a bill to pay our military during the government shutdown. That measure was approved by the Senate and signed by the President this week.
