Dear Mr. Switzer:
The Tulelake Growers Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1943. Association membership consists of farm families and businesses that support agriculture. Our purpose is "To promote and maintain successful family farming in the Klamath Basin".
In response to your letter dated August 11, 2003 requesting support for a technical study of Long Lake for water storage, we believe that it is imperative to initiate an analysis of this proposal in the immediate future. There are many benefits to be realized by deep-water storage in our area and the potential of Long Lake to provide additional storage should be thoroughly investigated by a highly qualified team of scientists. We would recommend that several local experts be included as part of the group that would conduct the study.
It is important to recognize that the Klamath Basin Water Supply Enhancement Act of 2000 authorizes the U.S Bureau of Reclamation "to conduct certain feasibility studies to augment water supplies for the Klamath Project, Oregon and California, and for other purposes". A technical study of the Long Lake proposal is an appropriate expenditure of federal funds provided by this congressional act.
In conclusion, please accept this letter of support to be submitted to members of congress and the agencies involved in this effort.
Thank you for taking an active role in protecting our agricultural community.
Sincerely,
Debra L. Crisp
Executive Director
