HELP STOP
THE LATEST ATTACK ON RURAL OREGON The latest assault on Klamath County is perpetrated by a Chicago power company. Peoples Energy, doing business as California Oregon Border LLC (COB, LLC), is proposing to build a natural gas fired power generating plant in very rural Langell Valley. Process could use 11 million gallons of water a day, (12,145 acre feet per year... enough water to irrigate 4858 acres of farm ground which is equal to half of the farmland irrigated by Horsefly Irrigation District!!!) and none of it will be recycled for agricultural use but will be turned into sludge and hauled to a landfill site. The energy facility would take too much land out of agricultural use ... they should not be allowed to do this especially here where it is an agricultural area, not an industrial area, and not near to an industrial area. We need to stand united for the well-being of the whole community and not let a big company from Chicago build an energy plant so they can use our natural resources, pollute our air, and destroy our quality of life just to send electricity south on transmission lines that are already carrying to full capacity. If the three intertie lines which carry power south through Bonanza and Langell Valley are already carrying to full capacity, will the FERC regulations of locational marginal prices cause an increase in our local power rates ??? Who will be required to replace the 12,145 acre-feet of water if it has historically gone down the Klamath River drainage? (discharge point of source aquifer) Will this proposed power plant dump 1192 tons of pollutants and ACID RAIN on thousands of acres of private and public property each year ??? Will 161 acres of land designated Exclusive Farm Use be reclassified to industrial use ? If this proposed power plant burns 74510.9 million cubic feet of natural gas annually, will the price of natural gas for home heating fuel rise ??? Does the state and county want you to pay for streets and schools and other costs associated with building and operating this plant. How? By giving COB huge tax breaks, will this cause our taxes to raise? Do you want to listen to the constant noise from six turbine generators ????
