LEST WE FORGET: We'll take time during this 25th Anniversary to
remember the year and nightmare of 2001,
when our government denied water to Klamath Irrigation Project
irrigators. Many were war veterans who won homesteads for their
service in WWI and WWII, with deeds with water rights
appurtenant to their land forever for them and their heirs,
signed by their U.S. President. They and their neighbors were
devastated to watch their crops die, their land die. They were
betrayed by their own government. They knew how to fight, as
most Klamath Basin farmers and ranchers had saved our country in
bloody wars. They knew the cost of freedom. They had meetings,
wrote their representatives and their President, held a
Congressional hearing in Klamath Falls on the ESA/Endangered
Species Act false science, organized protests with other
comrades and resource users who were fighting for freedom, their
rights to own property and farm their land. Our farmers were
proud to serve their country and felt honored to "feed
a hungry nation."
