There’s enough wilderness now

The fine guest commentary by Ed Putnam Aug. 25 brings up some food for thought but misses a major consideration about wilderness.

We have enough wilderness, enough monuments, enough parks and forest set-asides.

Almost none of these produce income to support our families.

Oregon has lost tens of thousands of forest jobs because of the phony spotted owl issue and the “sin” of clear cutting and logging old growth.

Our deer herds are suffering because of the lack of logging and the excellent browse that logging produces.

We have parks, forests and monuments that we cannot adequately staff because of lagging federal support.

We need to support what we have created and invest in our future generation by allowing good jobs that utilize our renewable resources.

I hope that our incompetent state and federal governments will allow salvage logging on the areas that are currently burning before the trees become rotten and bug infested.

It is time for reasonable people to take over from the ecoloonies.
