Local lawmakers ready for session's start on Monday

“Given the current economy, that’s going to take a lot of work,” he said.
He said Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s proposed $16 billion budget funds good, new programs such as health coverage for children, but would hurt services for the disabled and elderly. The legislator said he also is working on bills to preserve small-school funding for Klamath County schools should Klamath County and Klamath Falls city school districts merge.
Kulongoski’s efforts to push legislation that would raise power rates to PacifiCorp customers to pay for removal of four hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River have Whitsett’s attention as well.
