Walden to visit Merrill, K-Falls on Friday

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., has a packed morning during his planned visit to the Klamath Basin on Friday, his third visit of the year to the area, according to his staff.

Walden’s first stop is scheduled for a 8 a.m. town hall at Lost River Junior/Senior High School in Merrill, followed by a press conference to unveil key water legislation in Klamath Falls at 10:30 a.m. Both events are open to the public.

Walden is to speak about water legislation at the South Portal building at 10:30 a.m., which houses the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce, Discover Klamath, and Klamath County Economic Development Association (KCEDA).

Legislation will likely have a number of key provisions, including:

* Direct the Department of Interior to bring down power costs for irrigation in the Klamath Project and the Upper Klamath Basin.

* Authorize some reimbursement for D Plant pumping costs.

* Boost infrastructure in the Klamath Basin.

* Clarify authorization for locally supported water bank activities.

Walden will also meet with veterans for lunch at noon at a local restaurant in honor of Veteran’s Day, according to his press team.
