The ranges of all monitored water quality
parameters narrowed the week of
Oct. 4. Daytime temperatures in our study area
ranged from 14.9 to 16.8
'C. Dissolved oxygen concentrations ranged from 4.1
to 12.2 mg/L and
followed the previously observed pattern of higher
concentrations in the
north (7.6 to 12.2 mg/L) and lower in the south (4.1
to 9.3 mg/L). Levels
of pH ranged from 8.7 to 9.4.
Water temperatures and pH were lower the week of
Oct. 11. Daytime
temperatures in our study area ranged from 10.7 to
14.5 'C and pH ranged
from 8.0 to 9.0. The range of observed dissolved
oxygen concentrations
narrowed again this week with a minimum of 6.9 mg/L
and a peak of 11 mg/L.
As was observed the week of Oct. 4, concentrations
were highest in the
north (8.5 to 11 mg/L) and lowest in the south (6.9
to 8.6 mg/L).
Radio tagged sucker distributions were similar for
both weeks. Most tagged
fish were located in the eastern portion of the
study area (east of Eagle
Ridge) with some fish south of Bare Island. A few
fish were also located
each week in the Ball bay area.
These data are preliminary and are being provided as
a qualitative
assessment of lake conditions and fish
distributions. Only daytime
conditions collected by our water quality crews as
they visit each
monitoring site in our study area (all of Upper
Klamath Lake north of Bare
Island including Ball and Shoalwater bays, but
excluding Agency Lake)
during the course of the week are reported. They
are not meant to be
representative of the full range of conditions
occurring throughout the day
and night nor representative of conditions in all
areas of the lake.
