Tribal travel center coming soon
$4.4 million facility could be open by Aug. 1

The Klamath Tribes are
moving forward with construction of a $4.4 million travel
center next to Kla-Mo-Ya Casino and
could be open for business
by Aug. 1.
Quick construction
According to Klamath News,
the official tribal newspaper, mild weather and temperatures
have allowed quick construction of the Crater Lake Junction
Travel Center’s 7,800-square-foot main building, and the goal
The Klamath Tribes
Economic Development Corporation, an economic organization
within the Tribes not under tribal government, is overseeing
construction. Funding is split between allocations from the
Tribes and a $2.2 million bank loan.
The travel center will
serve as a fueling station and
also have space for a Subway franchise and gift shop. The
economic development corporation is seeking tribal members to
submit proposals for the two businesses, with a target opening
date of Aug. 1.
Calls by the Herald and News to the tribal economic
development corporation were not answered.
