Klamath Riverkeeper restores water quality and fisheries throughout the Klamath watershed, bringing vitality and abundance back to the river and its people.

We work closely with the Klamath River tribes, fishermen, and recreational groups, in all aspects of our programs. We apply a variation of our four-pronged approach to all of our campaigns and projects:

• Expert-informed policy advocacy within existing regulatory processes
• A legal strategy
• Grassroots outreach & education
• Scientific needs analysis & water quality monitoring
   

We have an active membership of people from all over the Klamath, and all over the Western US. If you are as passionate about the Klamath River as we are, consider joining us and offering your valuable input and ideas!

Erica Terence
Riverkeeper

Erica was born and raised in the rugged, remote canyons of the Klamath’s Salmon River. Growing up, her mentors were smart, independent citizens who organized coalitions against irresponsible logging and mining that would further silt up already degraded streams in the Klamath watershed. After studying abroad and receiving a BA in environmental journalism, Erica returned to California to edit the Northcoast Environmental Center’s (NEC) respected monthly publication, the ECONEWS. In the wake of longtime NEC director Tim McKay’s untimely death, Erica stepped in to maintain the NEC’s seat at the Klamath settlement negotiating table, representing the nonprofit in those talks between 28 parties for more than a year. She initiated, funded and completed scientific scrutiny of the settlement, collaborated with a diverse range of interests and forged sound working relationships with many of the players in the Klamath dam relicensing process. She looks forward to working alongside the people who depend on a healthy Klamath River, helping to empower communities of the Klamath and their allies to speak out against environmental injustices and keeping pace with complex legal and regulatory processes that affect the fate of the river and its people.

Scott coordinates grant writing and tracking, organizational and program budgets, our major donor campaign, and our membership. Scott also sits on the Board of Directors of the Salmon River Restoration Council and the Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center, two groups also working in the Klamath watershed. A 12 year resident of the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion, Scott has worked as a geologist for the Siskiyou National Forest, taught kayaking on the Salmon and Klamath Rivers, and worked as a freelance photographer. Scott holds a BS in Geological Science and was a graduate fellow at Penn State's Earth System Science Center. Scott is pictured here on the Sandy Bar rapid of the Klamath River.

Malena Marvin
Outreach & Science Director

Malena has a professional background  as a community organizer, field biologist, wilderness guide, sea kayaking instructor, and in conservation planning and nonprofit development.  Most recently she interned with the Alaska Conservation Foundation and the Southeast Alaska Watershed Council Association, and worked with Nature Conservancy Alaska as a conservation action planner.  She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Education from Southern Oregon University (2007), and a BA in History from Reed College (2001). Born and raised in Southern Oregon, Malena is crazy about wild salmon and wild rivers and believes strongly in every river’s inherent right to be clean, wild, and full of fish. Malena is pictured here helping out a commercial salmon fisherman in Yakutat Bay, Alaska.

Georgiana Myers
Tribal Empowerment Coordinator
 

Georgianna is a Yurok Tribal member and is the coordinator of KRK’s fledgling Native Empowerment Program.  She is a Yurok language teacher and has six brothers and a sister, all of whom are either involved in Yurok politics, and/or are subsistence and commercial fishermen. Georgianna coordinates our communications with impacted Klamath Native communities, organizing direct action trainings, carpools and busses to important meetings and events, as well as informational gatherings in Native communities. Along with other outstanding community members, Georgianna has been instrumental in planning Klamath Justice Coalition trips to Omaha, Nebraska for dam owner Warren Buffett's Berkshire shareholders meetings.

Evelyn Roether

Evelyn is an ideal administrator for Klamath Riverkeeeper, with 20 years experience in the conservation and nonprofit world and a commitment to efficient office operations. As the former coordinator of the Williams Watershed Council, Evelyn is a top-notch grantwriter and bookkeeper. A graduate of SOU's Environmental Education Masters program, she is the author of the Williams Area Trail Guide, and homesteads 40 acres with her husband. She also enjoys gardening, hiking, rafting and traveling - ask about her recent trip to Croatia!
