Our Klamath Basin
Water Crisis
Upholding rural Americans' rights to grow food,
own property, and caretake our wildlife and natural resources.
Klamath Thoughts - In
reference to Sue Hall’s letter
Hornbrook, Calif. — Personally, I
like meat and potatoes. I also have been to
Washington, where one of my sons lives. They have 25
to 100 inches of rain a year. If we have a good
year, we might get 15 inches of rain a year. There,
rivers get rain year around. They plant trees and 25
to 30 years later, they have marketable trees. I can
show you trees around here that are only 15 to 20
feet after 60 years. If it wasn’t for the dams
holding some water to replenish the lower Klamath,
it would be a stagnate pool. Look around you.
In this part of California and Oregon, we don’t get enough rain to help the Klamath. It flows through dry lands, not the lush forests like Washington. If you haven’t been to and seen our dams, go see them. They are well-maintained, the people of Pacific Power, who work and earn their living here. |
