This letter is in support of the attached
cover Letter to a 1,800-signature petition sent to State Senator
Sam Aanstead from non-Grange members, supporting the retention of
the Klamath River dams.
The undersigned County Granges concur with
the 1,500 citizens of the region that the Dams should remain. The
State of California is a signatory with the other Western
Governors pact to reduce greenhouse emissions. Thus the removal of
green clean energy producing Hydro-electric dams is contradictory
to that agreement and not justifiable. More particularly the early
studies released showing that the Dams are polluting the water and
endangering the fish species’ are based on supposition and totally
biased data with no credible scientific proof. There are
available, verifiable scientific studies that show just the
opposite.
Pacific Power, owners of the dams are being
required to spend at least 812 million dollars, by government
agencies on pollution control equipment on their other generating
equipment to meet overall emission standards on their generating
facilities. Why not let them spend some of that on the
hydroelectric dams, for upgrades, a clean source of energy.
Any negative impacts on the Klamath River
habitat by retaining the dams is very short lived and
non-destructive, which can be mitigated. Removal of the dams is
destruction of productive capital, agriculture, business, jobs,
and families. Is this the legacy you wish to be remembered for?
The undersigned granges from over eleven
counties state wide request you and the other elected and
appointed officials who are receiving a copy of this letter
support The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors in their position
of keeping the Hydroelectric dams.
