9/22/11 Federal Court Eviscerates Obama Administration's California Water Policy

Congressman Nunes Newsletter,

and Letter from Congressman Devin Nunes to Secretary Salazar Letter from Numes to Salazar

Dear Friends,

Recently, the U.S. District Court issued a decision on a dispute of great importance to the San Joaquin Valley -- the scientific basis for the Obama Administration’s water restrictions. In its decision, the federal court exposed as “zealots” the government experts who testified in support of the restrictions. The court also ruled that the government’s actions were unscientific and illegal.

Days after the court ruling, Secretary Salazar showed no sign of contrition. Indeed, in a speech delivered before the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, he doubled down on the illegal policies of the Department of Interior and attacked critics as narrow minded and politically motivated. Ironically, these were the same basic criticisms levied against his department by the federal court.

In my view, the court ruling has crystallized what many of us have known for some time – that Secretary Salazar and his department are out of control. I am therefore seeking a Congressional investigation into the abuses outlined by the federal court. In addition, earlier today I transmitted my response to the Secretary to his recent attacks against valley legislators (included below).

If you would like more information on this or any other issue pending before Congress, please feel free to call or write. My website contains a web form that will allow you to send me a personal message. You can also fax or mail your questions or comments to me.

Sincerely,

Devin Nunes
