Yreka, Calif. — After nearly seven hours
of discussion, questions and public comment, the
Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors voted to reject the
Klamath Basin Restoration and Klamath Hydroelectric
Settlement agreements and to not sign either document.
The vote, which was met with cheers from some in the audience, was four to one, with District 2 Supervisor Ed Valenzuela voting in line with his position that the county should sign both documents and stay within the processes outlined in each.
There were a number of public comments urging the board to sign the documents, to not sign, or to wait and see how the situation plays out. Those comments, along with the board’s interaction with the representatives from government agencies and PacifiCorp, will be covered in the Siskiyou Daily News.
