Walden To Continue Role in House Leadership Structure

 Deputy Whip position provides Walden role in establishing, passing House agenda; affords Oregonians a strong voice in the Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) has been reappointed as a Deputy Majority Whip for the 109^th Congress by House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO).  Walden, who recently began his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, was named an Assistant Whip in 2001 after only one term in the Congress, and was subsequently promoted to be a Deputy Whip one term later. 

As part of the 18-member Deputy Whip team, Walden will participate in weekly leadership meetings, assist in the establishment of legislative strategy and work with his colleagues to ensure passage of important agenda items in the House.  

“Greg has been an excellent Deputy Whip.  I am pleased that he has agreed to continue on in this very important job,” Blunt said.  “I look forward to working with him every day to move the Republican agenda forward in the House.”

Congressman Walden represents the Second Congressional District of Oregon, which includes 20 counties in southern, central and eastern Oregon.  He is a Deputy Whip in the House leadership structure and a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as the Committee on Resources.
