PRESS RELEASE 11/16/04 Doolittle Reelected to House GOP Leadership Will Remain Conference Secretary for 109th Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John T. Doolittle (R-CA) was unanimously reelected today by his Republican colleagues to serve as House Republican Conference Secretary for the 109th Congress, a position he has held for the past two years. Upon being reelected, Doolittle pledged to continue to work to strengthen the Republican majority and be a vocal proponent of conservative principles within the leadership team. "I consider it a great honor to serve with such dynamic and effective leaders," Doolittle said. "Since coming to Congress, I have sought to provide unyielding support for the Republican cause and for those striving to join our crusade for smaller government, lower taxes, and fiscal restraint. "As Conference Secretary, I will continue to work enthusiastically toward strengthening our Republican majority and furthering a conservative agenda for America," Doolittle said. In addition to the traditional leadership responsibilities associated with the Conference Secretary position, Doolittle has also played a key role in providing critical support to freshmen members. In doing so, Doolittle led new members through the process of setting up their offices, guiding them through a variety of issues including the appropriations process, media communications, drafting legislation, hiring and managing staff, and other efforts needed to help create a strong Republican majority. By reaching out to each new office, Doolittle has been credited with helping new members navigate Capitol Hill and ensuring that their freshman term was as productive as possible. Doolittle is joined by seven other elected leaders including Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (IL), Majority Leader Tom DeLay (TX), Majority Whip Roy Blunt (MO), Conference Chairperson Deborah Pryce (OH), Policy Committee Chairman Christopher Cox (CA), Conference Vice-Chairman Jack Kingston (GA), and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Thomas Reynolds (NY). U.S. Rep. John T. Doolittle has served in the House of Representatives since 1991. As Secretary of the House Republican Conference, he is an elected member of the House Republican Leadership. Doolittle represents California's 4th Congressional District and serves on the Appropriations Committee, Energy and Water and DC Appropriations Subcommittees, and the House Administration Committee.
