Update of
Jay Walley...please pray for him.
6/26/04
I'd like to ask your
forgiveness for having neglected to give all of you
a more frequent update on Jay Walley's recovery.
Yes, Jay is able to read his mail. He is not able to
reply.
Jay is finding himself locked in his mind, with no
way out. The only way
anyone can understand his predicament is if one has
lived though the
same experience himself.
He works every day on getting back what he lost to
the stroke. As I
write this, it has been seven months and ten days
since it happened.
The first few things Jay conquered was to have the
feeding tube removed;
to sit on the side of the bed on his own; to stand
with the assistance
of only one person; transfer by himself from the
wheelchair to the bed;
and to walk, and so many other small things that we
neglect to
appreciate in everyday life, just how significant
they are.
The speech is coming back slowly.
Regretfully, Jay is having a hard time breaking this
wall. It has been
the most difficult one. He is working with
speech-language pathologists,
and physical and occupational therapists.
I know that Jay will not give up. If I ever see a
look on him with this
thought on his mind, I will remind him that a "Jar
Head" is not
permitted to quit.
The love and commitment to the United States of
America for Jay began in
Alabama, where he grew up picking cotton. With the
strong hand of his
father, and the love of his mother, they gave him a
good foundation for
his life.
He has a strong conservative view, and he has not
forgotten that what we
love and treasure, we must fight to preserve.
"We are like mustard seed."
"We must continue to tie knots on the fishing net."
The Marine Corps gave Jay a (Gung Ho!) personality,
to take a stand and
not back away from what is right.
God gave him a wife to stand by his side and help
him overcome the
biggest challenge of his life.
One of Jay's favorite expressions is: "come and join
us in our next
gathering; it will be like a bunch of kinfolks you
didn't know you had."
Come and join us for the Freedom 21 Conference in
Reno, July 21-24.
Thank you for all of your support.
You're the kinfolk I did not know I had. We have
missed you all.
