 Theodore
"Ted" Allan Rupert, 89, passed away at his home in Tulelake
on Monday, May 2, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Jerome, Idaho, on Nov. 9, 1921, as the second
of five children of Annabell (Brinegar) and Marion Rupert.
He moved to the Malin area when he was a boy.
Ted joined the Navy during World War II and became a flight
instructor for the U.S. Marines. When he returned to the
Klamath Basin following his military service, he met Janice
Ott and married her on May 1, 1948. With the exception of
two years of farming, he spent most of his life as a heavy
equipment operator. In 1976, he started his own backhoe
business, which he continued to operate long after he had
planned to retire at the age of 80.
Ted loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
His family will long remember his strong work ethic, his
determination to provide for his family, his independent
spirit, and his ability to stretch a dollar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ted Jr.,
his four siblings Ed, Alta, "Humpty," and Norm, and his
first great-grandson Jarrod Massey.
Survivors include Janice, his wife of 63 years; daughters
and sons-in-law Linda and Jim Massey and Denise and Ed
Alaniz; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Jana Rupert;
daughter-in-law Barbara Rupert-Yates; grandchildren James
and Cathy Massey, Rob and Kelsey Massey, Jon and Michele
Massey, David and Jeanine Rupert, Justin Rupert, Joelle
(Chin) and Donny Black, Nikki (Jenkins) and Bobby Hirschbock,
Caroline (Jenkins) and James Surane, and Michelle and Kendra
Rupert; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Malin Cemetery on
Saturday, May 7, at 3 p.m. Davenport's Chapel of the Good
Shepherd is in charge of funeral arrangements.
