Annual Tulelake field day to be held next Thursday

July 21, 2005

The Intermountain Research and Extension Center in Tulelake will conduct its annual field day Thursday, July 28.

The program will start at 8:30 a.m. with a tour of field research plots on the experiment farm. The tour will conclude around 11:30 a.m., and will be followed by a picnic lunch prepared by the Extension Center staff.

This year's tour will feature research on grain and forage crops, including discussions on new varieties, cereal rust, forage harvest, irrigation and perennial grass establishment.

The tour will also include a stop to demonstrate and dedicate the center's new mini-distillation facility. The new experimental still is considered critical to the success of university research programs focused on supporting the Basin's young peppermint industry.

The tour is free and open to anyone with an interest in local agriculture and agricultural research. Comfortable clothing, a hat and walking shoes are recommended. For more information contact the center at (530) 667-5117.
