Our Klamath Basin
Water Crisis
Upholding rural Americans' rights to grow food,
own property, and caretake our wildlife and natural resources.
Public input sought for salmon plan August 20, 2005 The public can comment until Aug. 26 on a plan to allow hatchery-bred salmon and steelhead carcasses to be placed in selected streams for nutrient enrichment. Fish carcass placement helps replace some of the marine-derived nutrients historically available from decaying post-spawn fish. Carcasses are collected at fish hatcheries and placed in spawning streams as part of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds. A Memorandum of Agreement is developed annually between Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. The draft plan is available at www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/. Information and comments can be sent to Gary Galovich, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, 3406 Cherry Ave. NE, Salem, OR 97303, or e-mail Gary.M.Galovich@state.or.us. -- Beth Casper |
