This is a great opportunity to spend time with Congressman Richard Pombo,
Chair of the House Resources Committee, without having to travel to
Washington, D.C.  Pombo has dedicated two years of his Congressional career
to updating and modernizing the Endangered Species Act.

Congressman Pombo is traveling around the U.S. to provide the grassroots
with information and an opportunity to give him input.  Oregon needs to show
our appreciation by attending this event.  We don't want him to leave our
state thinking that ESA improvement is not important to us.

Please plan to attend and write a $50 personal check, Federal law does not
allow contributions from corporate accounts.

Congressman Richard Pombo
Chairman, House Resources Committee

Richard W. Pombo was sworn in to his sixth term in the House of Representatives in January of 2003. He represents the Eleventh District of California which includes portions of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Santa Clara Counties. He previously served as a city councilman in Tracy, California from 1990 to 1992.

* In January of 2003, Congressman Pombo became Chairman of the House Resources
Committee. He also serves on the House Agriculture Committee. Currently on leave
from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee because of his Chairmanship, he
remains committed to finding transportation solutions throughout the district.
* Co-founder of the Portuguese Caucus, a coalition of 35 members of Congress who
promote positive Portuguese-American relations. Pombo was awarded The Grand Order
of Infante D. Henrique, the highest civilian honor that is bestowed by the Portuguese
government, in recognition of his efforts to improve Portuguese-American relations.
* Co-founder of the San Joaquin County Citizen’s Land Alliance. The Alliance is a
coalition of farmers and other property owners who advocate private property rights,
and fight attempts by government to strip these rights away from citizens.

On July 25, 2001, Congressman Pombo was elected Chairman of the Congressional
Western Caucus. The Western Caucus is an organization of fifty-five Members of
Congress which works to form one voice on issues such as Endangered Species Act
reform, water rights, private property rights and other issues affecting Congressional
districts in the West.

Mr. Pombo has received awards from several organizations for his activism in reducing
government regulations, taxation and spending, including the United States Business
and Industrial Council, the National Taxpayers Union, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Over the past two years, Congressman Richard Pombo’s official webpage has received
awards for being one of best webpages in the entire House of Representatives. In 2001,
the Congressman’s webpage was given a second place rating by The Advocacy Group,
a Seattle-based Internet and political consulting firm that surveyed all 540 web sites in
the House and Senate. This year, Congressman Richard Pombo’s webpage continued it’s
winning streak when it received the “Golden Mouse” award from the Congress Online
Project, a joint research project of the Congressional Management Foundation and
George Washington University. Only 15 sites out of 605 websites evaluated received the award.

In 1996 Mr. Pombo authored This Land is Our Land, a book advocating private property
rights. Published by St. Martin’s Press, it has been reviewed by publications across the
political spectrum, from Land Rights Letter to Sierra Club Magazine.

A fourth generation Californian, Mr. Pombo is very active in a variety of business interests,
including dairy, farming, trucking, and beef cattle operations. He was born in Tracy
in 1961, and attended California State University at Pomona. Richard and Annette
Pombo have been married since 1983. They have three children, Richie, Rena and Rachel.
