Our Klamath Basin
Water Crisis
Upholding rural Americans' rights to grow food,
own property, and caretake our wildlife and natural resources.
March With Us! A water redistribution plan is poised to dramatically alter the Wallowa Valley in northeast Oregon. This valley and its people are sustained by agriculture and agricultural water. Those now competing for valley water include the federal government, numerous fish interests and the Tribes. The valley-altering plan is the Wallowa Valley Water Management Plan of 2004, contained in Senate Bill S. 1355RS. This Bill is close to passage in Congress. To view this Bill please visit www.StopTheWaterGrab.org Among the Bill's most significant features: - locking up valley irrigation water and placing it under outside control; - disrupting the valley ecosystem with water transfers and pipelines; and - facilitating the (re)introduction of endangered species of salmon. ____________ March With Us! On June 26th there will an historic march through each of the towns (4) in the valley, ending at a rally and BBQ in the river canyon that sequesters this beautiful place from the rest of the world. We will be marching under the wording of the attached Petition on the website www.StopTheWaterGrab.org to "Keep Our Valley Free." If you agree with the spirit of the Petition on the website www.StopTheWaterGrab.org or any of the following slogans, bring family and friends and come spend a weekend in the unforgettable Wallowa Valley! March for Valley Freedom Water Is Liberty We Are All Endangered! Water for Life, Not for Tribute! Our Valley Is More Than a Fish Story! Water's Best First Use Is At Home! Join us in the streets of Joseph and Enterprise... Lostine and Wallowa... and on the banks of the Wallowa River to show Washington, DC just how we feel and that we are united in a common cause. Help our collective voice be heard and seen all the way Washington. (A videotape of the march, and the petition, will be delivered to Congress.) Enjoy free rides on the bus, free snacks and free BBQ dinner with live entertainment and guest speakers. It will be an historic day!
