AREA TOURS

Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge Tour-Refuge employees will accompany you on this bus trip of the Lower Klamath Refuge auto tour route to stop and see many wildlife species using the refuge during the spring and summer months. Guides will explain how refuge habitats are managed to attract many wildlife species while setting up spotting scopes to help identify a variety of marsh species.

9:30-11:30 am

Lava Beds National Monument-A walking tour of Captain Jack’s Stronghold will be conducted by a Lava Beds Park Ranger. In the winter of 1873, Captain Jack and his small band of Modoc Indians held off a thousand U.S. Army soldiers for almost five months. You will walk through the natural fortifications, see the Modoc dance circle and peer down into the cave where Captain Jack lived. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and must provide their own transportation to the parking lot at Captain Jack’s Stronghold. The Park Ranger will be waiting there to begin the tour.
