Klamath County is looking for those who know about natural resources to help guide its board of commissioners.

The newly formed Natural Resources Advisory Council has openings for 13 members, each focused on a specific topic. The council will advise the commissioners on natural resource issues in the county.

Commissioner Bill Brown, who proposed the council, stressed that it will be made up by the public, not agency officials.

"These are community people who will represent these 13 areas," he said.

County government employees aren't eligible for the council.

Applicants need to be residents of Klamath County and have the background to represent one of the following categories: ranching/farming; timber/forest; agricultural power; upper Klamath Basin water users; lower Basin water users; wildlife/recreation/tourism; nurseries; hydrology; mining/rock quarries; land planning/development; education; economic development; and tribal services.

Council members will serve three-year terms, meeting once a month.

Applications are available at the commissioners' office at 305 Main St. They will be accepted through Sept. 30.
