Services will be at the Mt. Laki Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Wednesday. 
 

Alvin was born on January 10, 1921 to Alexander and Crystel (McReynolds) Cheyne.  He lived his life on the farm where he was born.  He was active in farming literally until the day of his death.  He had one of the oldest herds of registered Angus cattle in the west.  He and his brother Charles began the herd in 1939.

Mr. Cheyne was Klamath County Commissioner from 1978-1982.  Prior to that, he had a long history of community service.  He served for nearly two decades on the Klamath County Roads Advisory Committee, serving as its chairman during the latter part of his service.  He served an equal time on the local advisory committee of the Soil Conservation Service.  Additionally, he was a member of Rotary International for most of his adult life.  He was active in 4-H, being the leader of the Henley Beef Club for seventeen years.  He was also a board member of the Klamath Basin Improvement District.  For the past several years, he was a member of the board of directors of the Klamath Bucket Brigade.  He was drawn there due to his desire to see the use of accurate historical information in the local water debate.

He married Ada Viola (Vi) Hicks on December 2, 1945.  She preceded him in death on April 19, 1971.  He married Beverly Murdock McFall thirty years ago this month.  Beverly survives him.  He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Gove, of Pasco Washington, and Brother Charles and sister-in-law Margaret Cheyne of Lorella.

Other immediate family members include son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda Cheyne of Salem and their son Mark and daughter Crystel Goodwin and her family.  His son Brent and Grandson Rodney Cheyne of Klamath Falls.  Alvin took particular enjoyment in helping Rodney in haying operations.  He is also survived by another son, Steve Cheyne of Klamath Falls.

He is also survived by son and daughter-in-law Tim and Marilyn Roberts, their daughter Ammie and her family and their son Jimmy.  He is survived by daughter Joan Long and her son Jim, a Special forces sergeant who left for service in Iraq this week.  Also her son Chris and his wife Brooke and their daughter Ashlynn.  Another daughter and son-in-law are Patty and David Card and their sons Bryn and Drew, all of Klamath Falls.

Other survivors include nephews Hank Cheyne and his family of Lorella and Alex Cheyne and his family of Albany.  Also, his sister-in-law Kathryn Wells Murdock and her family of Vancouver Washington.  As well as his brother-in-law, the reverend Thomas Murdock, and his family.  Reverend Murdock will conduct the funeral ceremony.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Drew.
