Land retirement program meetings to be held in towns around the county

An official with a federal land retirement program will be holding informal meetings in towns around Klamath County to help growers and producers decide if they want to participate in it.

In the program, called the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, agricultural producers voluntarily retire land that helps protect environmentally sensitive land, decrease erosion, restore wildlife habitat, and safeguard ground and surface water, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Lee Ashford, the Klamath County technician for the program, will be available to answer questions between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the following spots and dates:

  • Klamath Tribes Administration Building, 501 Chiloquin Blvd., Chiloquin, on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
  • Sprague River Station, 24202 Sprague River Highway, Sprague River, on Thursday, Jan. 6.
  • Beatty Store & Cafe, 42615 Highway 140 East, Beatty, on Jan. 11.
  • Kosten's Country Kitchen, Bonanza, on Jan. 13.
  • Pappy Gander's, 237 E. Front St., Merrill, on Jan. 18.
  • Elmer's, 3030 S. Sixth St., Klamath Falls, on Jan. 20.
