LaMalfa Praises Senate for USMCA Passage LaMalfa News Release 1/16/2020 (Washington, DC) - Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the Senate passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and awaits the President's signature. LaMalfa said: "I am very pleased after a needless one-year delay that the Senate passed the USMCA, because it is fundamentally good for America. By reducing trade barriers and giving our farmers and manufacturers new opportunities to grow, the American economy is getting a boost. As our neighbors, maintaining a free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada is vital. Once enacted by all three governments, the USMCA will create a more balanced, joint trade platform that supports high-paying jobs for American workers and will help grow the North American economy." California Agriculture groups have urged the passage of USMCA and were not hesitant to praise the Senate's action. "Passage of the USMCA has been a top priority for Farm Bureau and other farm organizations, and we're excited to have achieved the milestone of congressional passage," said California Farm Bureau Federation President Jamie Johansson. "Today's Senate vote brings us closer to realizing the agreement's benefits to California." "The ratification of USMCA is a crucial win for all U.S. beef producers and a reassurance that U.S. beef will continue to have unrestricted, duty-free access to Canada and Mexico," said National Cattlemen's Beef Association President Jennifer Houston. "NCBA has been a strong supporter of USMCA since day one, and we believe that today's vote sends a strong message to the rest of the world that the United States believes in free and fair trade." USMCA: * 180,000 jobs created * $70 billion increase to our GDP * $20 billion more exports to Mexico * $15 billion more exports to Canada California exported $48.5 billion in goods to Canada and Mexico in 2018 * Mexico: $30.7 billion * Canada: $17.8 billion Of this $3.1 billion was in Agricultural products, $2.8 billion in Processes Food, and $13.7 billion in Computer and Electronic Products USMCA will increase U.S. agricultural exports to the world by $2.2 billion.
