An old injustice won't
justify a newer one
Herald and News by David Porter Misso, Tulelake 5/5/17
Great
news for lawyer fees, thanks to the Tule Lake Committee
(TLC) and its new and improved lawsuit to shut down our
Tulelake Airport and close the largest non-governmental
business in this part of Modoc County.
After
failing at their 18 months of useless meetings with
so-called stakeholders this San Francisco- based
organization has put on its legal boxing gloves and will
rally gullible big city people from around the globe who
have never been to this area telling them that the “rural”
folk will destroy the no-longer existing historic resources
by fencing in the airport that back in 1942 was part of the
Tule Lake Segregation Center.
The
goal of the TLC is to have the federal government take over
all the land that was once the largest location of a
terrible injustice inflicted on mostly American citizens
without due process. If TLC wins this lawsuit the American
citizens who live here now will face a terrible injustice
but in this case there will be due process, a process
controlled by courts far from the area in question. Then the
local steak-holders end up being hamburger-holders!
It
made my day when President George W. Bush signed the bill
that created the Tule Lake Unit of the World War II Valor in
the Pacific National Monument, it was a long time coming but
the intent was to not expand beyond the acreage agreed to by
all including the TLC at that time. The TLC must start
working to improve their anti-rural prejudice and help build
a top notch educational visitor center.
Rather
than battling rural folk the Tule Lake Committee should be
worried about Interior Secretary Zinke who was given orders
to review dozens of national monuments. Maybe we should file
a lawsuit against San Francisco Airport?
