Guns -
COMPROMISE IS NOT AN OPTION
by Jim Beers 1/31/09
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a
free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall
not be infringed." Article II of the Constitution of the United
States of America
The news about guns and gun control coming out of Washington
during just these first two weeks of a Democrat Congress, White
House, and from a Democrat Supreme Court Justice is bad, bad, bad.
- The President is appointing many known gun control advocates to
positions up to and including his Chief of Staff and the Attorney
General.
- The President, who ran for office while privately ridiculing
rural people to San Francisco elites for "clinging to their guns"
and publicly saying he would respect the 2nd Amendment, expresses
support for a proposal to force the registration of all ammunition
purchases that would inevitably lead to government authority over
all ammunition sold, possessed, or used as a prelude to the same
disposition for gun sales, ownership, or use.
- Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg, a Democrat appointee and a
calendar item for Democrat offices, wrote an opinion "that police
officers have leeway to frisk a passenger in a car stopped for a
traffic violation even if nothing indicates the passenger has
committed a crime or is about to do so" if they "harbor reasonable
suspicion that a person subjected to the frisk is armed, and
therefore dangerous to the safety of the police and public." Like
"entrapment", "probable cause" is fast becoming an archaic custom
once found in another America where government and police power
were clearly circumscribed.
- Chicago Congressman (the former Black Panther that was recently
noted as saying that the President's Senate seat was a "black
seat" and that anyone opposing a black for that seat was guilty of
"racism") has introduced a bill to give the US Attorney General
discretionary authority over licensing gun owners just like the
absolute gun bans in Chicago and Washington, DC.
- A US Senator from Virginia sits in the Senate after placing a
loaded gun on a Capitol Hill Security belt after transporting it
through the District of Columbia. Federal law and DC law EACH make
such transportation and possession a felony with years in prison
as the penalty. The Senator was never charged "for lack of
evidence".
Encouraged by the Democrat moves in Washington, Democrat officials
in 18 states have introduced state laws (new federal legislation
will "feed off" passage of such state laws as "precedents" and as
"the will of the people") to require all ammunition to be encoded
by the manufacture, a data base of all ammunition sales. So they
will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any
ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded. Any
privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1,
2011 including hand-loaded ammo. They also propose a .05 cent tax
on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least
$2.50 or more. If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to
take your gun.
If you are easily insulted by what you consider to be dramatic
analogies, you need not read any further. Whenever I mention
emotional facts as I am about to do, I invariably get hate mail
and offend some readers: while it is not my intention to do
either, the comparison must be made.
It is no innocent coincidence that this explosion of gun control
actions is occurring simultaneously with all of the other radical
central government seizures of individual and States Rights in the
past two weeks from the proposed takeover of the private sector
banks (nationalize) and auto manufacturers (take the bailout and
build only these cars) to proposals to artificially raise gas
prices and energy prices (to "reduce" carbon) and proposals to
"cut the Governors and State Legislatures out of any say in
bailout spending in their states" and to deny "white" workers and
"skilled" workers any access to work provided by federal tax
dollars. In fact, there is a historic precedence for just such
government action a mere 70 years ago.
8 November 1938 - All Jews in Germany were disarmed. The SS and
Gestapo, under written orders from Goebbels, Himmler, and Heydrich
seized any weapons that could be used for protection in any Jewish
household. In Berlin alone
2,569 daggers and swords, 1,702 firearms, and 20,000 rounds of
ammunition were seized.
9 November 1938 - Jewish homes, businesses and Synagogues were
destroyed leaving more than 2500 Jews dead and untold numbers
injured. The Nazis called it Kristallnacht: we know it as Crystal
Night.
10 November 1938 - At 6 AM German radios announce that any Jew
found in possession of a firearm would be shot at once.
Like it or not, it must be said: the Nazis intended to and did
indeed take every right and freedom from anyone they chose to call
a Jew along with eventually anyone else they chose to marginalize
JUST LIKE the current Democrat party officials in control of the
White House, Congress, Supreme Court, and many State Legislatures
intend to take away most if not all of our Constitutional rights
and the Constitutional limits to their power. Like Hitler they
were elected and like Hitler they implemented their agenda under
the smoke of "emergencies" and promises of roads and employment.
It is useless to argue facts about gun control:
- Russia and Brazil have stricter gun laws than the US plus higher
homicide and robbery rates. So what?
- In Australia today, police can enter your house and search for
guns, copy the hard drive of your computer, seize records, and do
it all without a search warrant. So what?
- British citizens are demonstrating to get back the right to own
firearms that they meekly surrendered several decades ago and the
government just laughs. So what?
- The UN intends to ban all guns except for government officials.
So what?
- American military recruits grow less and less familiar with and
less and less adept with guns. So what?
- During WWI and during WWII Germany twice abandoned plans to
invade Switzerland. All the Swiss are armed; Swiss marksmanship is
far greater than German, French, or American citizens; and Swiss
commanders publicly stated they would fight to the last man. A
popular Swiss postcard of the WWI period showed the Kaiser asking
a Swiss militiaman what he would do if a half million Germans
marched against a quarter of a million Swiss Army soldiers: his
reply, "Shoot twice". So what.
Guns are impediments to government power impositions: nothing else
matters. Why else are Russians and Chinese disarmed? Why did the
Nazis disarm their opponents? Why are all these Democrat officials
hell-bent on disarming us? The answer is not rocket science:
- Angry about wolves and grizzly bears at your door? Tough.
- Angry about shutting down public land uses and its' effect on
your town, livelihood, economy, family, recreation, etc.? Tough.
- Angry about your taxes going to kill unborn children? Tough.
- Angry about the government "taking" your property without
compensation and not for a public use? Tough.
- Angry about new laws banning hunting, trapping, fishing, pets,
meat, fur, SUV's, single-family homes, roads, etc.? Tough.
- Angry about artificially high energy prices and artificial bans
on coal and gas and oil exploration and use? Tough.
- Angry about increasing taxes and indifferent bureaucrats that
only take more and more from you? Tough.
- Angry about the loss of your freedoms and culture and
traditions? Tough.
- Angry about what is being done to your children and family and
local community? Tough.
- Angry about government dictating to your church who they can
hire and what they can and cannot say? Tough.
If they, the Democrats, can destroy "the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms"; a RIGHT that is specifically identified in
the US Constitution that "shall not be infringed"; these other
government power grabs are mere speed bumps or child's play for
determined Fabian-socialists like the modern Democrats. Look at
Chicago and Washington, DC and New York City and Boston and see
how guns are banned and what the crime rates are like; notice how
entrenched Democrat political machines run everything from what
you eat to how you live and who gets what job. Look at their
faces; I saw happier free men in a recent video of a guy traveling
through those Pakistani tribal areas where guns are ubiquitous by
a long shot and where men brag, laugh and smile about their large
families. Look at how these cities are always going broke and how
they rig elections. Never forget that the present Administration
emerged from Chicago and that the groups that are so eagerly
embracing the results of the recent election are the very ones
depopulating the rural countryside and bent on taking away our
"right" "to keep and bear Arms" along with a lot of other rights
in The Bill of Rights and all of our culture and traditions.
No, compromise is NOT an option. Almost 500 years before Christ,
Pericles the leader of Athens said it best, "Freedom is the sure
possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it."
Amen.
