Fire still smoking in Medicine Lake area

ALTURAS — Thunderstorms that rolled through the Modoc National Forest Tuesday and Wednesday resulted in 20 lightning caused fires, all less than half an acre. All 20 fires have been contained. One fire is in a burnt lava flow in the Medicine Lake area and is surrounded by barren lava rock. Smoke from vegetation burning in the interior of the fire may be visible for several days and will be monitored by fire personnel. The Modoc National Forest remains in fire restrictions.
