The Grants Pass Daily Courier reported the shutdown will put 85 employees out of work. The company said in a press release it was operating only one shift and could not get enough logs from federal forests. CEO Jennifer Phillippi said her grandparents founded the company in 1922. She said the number of sawmills operating in Josephine and Jackson counties dropped from 22 in 1975 to six a decade ago, and in recent years, Rough & Ready was the only sawmill in Josephine County.
