Activists block timber sale

GRANTS PASS (AP) — A group of protesters concerned about global warming as well as protecting fish and wildlife habitat blocked loggers from a timber sale on the Elliott State Forest on Monday.

A logging crew for Scott Timber of Roseburg, a division of Rose burg Forest Products, turned back after they were confronted by about 30 protesters who had erected barricades blocking the road to the Ump-Coos Ridge No. 2 timber sale about 12 miles east of Reedsport, said Oregon Department of Forestry spokesman Kevin Weeks.

The blockade was the culmination of a nearby forest gathering of Earth First! and other groups over the past week known as the Round River Rendezvous,
