Public comments taken on critical habitat plan

(Analysis revises economic impact, H&N, posted to KBC 8/9/12.)

YREKA, Calif. - Public comments will be taken through Aug. 27 on a draft economic analysis of a proposed critical habitat revision for Lost River and shortnose suckers in the Klamath Basin.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service unveiled the analysis July 25 after proposing in December to designate two areas totaling 241,438 acres and 274 stream miles in southern Oregon and Northern California for the fish, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Fish and Wildlife asserts the critical habitat designation would not affect land ownership or prevent landowners from taking actions on their land that don't require federal funding or permits.
