The Klamath Basin Hay Growers Association is conducting its annual membership drive.

The association seeks to educate people about the importance of alfalfa, said David King, association president.

"We also represent growers at the legislative level and in the marketplace," King said. "Alfalfa represented 60,000 acres of the Klamath Basin last year and can have a strong voice in our constant battle to retain water for agriculture."

King said this year the association needs "substantial funding" to help get an Oregon law changed regarding tie-down regulations for hay trucks.

"To change this law, we must have an independent engineering firm do a costly study to help prove that (the new tie-down rule) is not necessary," King said.
