Kepple registered Republican in March 10/16/16 Herald and News by Tim Roberts, Dairy Regarding Dan Keppen's recent letter supporting Democrat candidate Todd Kepple: Keppen accurately observes the Republican and Democrat candidates for Senate District 28 couldn't be more different. Linthicum is a lifelong Republican endorsed be the Klamath County and Oregon Republican Party. Kepple is running for election on the Democrat ticket. According to the Secretary of State's Election Division, Kepple was registered as a Democrat in 2008. He only registered Republican in March of 2016, well after the primary elections candidate filing deadline. Even had Kepple timely filed, he was ineligible to run as a Republican in the spring primary. Linthicum's service as Klamath County commissioner, his lifestyle and extensive writings establish him as a fiscal and social constitutional conservative. He supports parental control in public education, is pro-life, pro-public safety and pro-Second Amendment. He opposes the destruction of the Klamath River dams. He's adamant that state government must live within its means. Kepple appears unable to articulate clear positions on any of these important issues, perhaps because he's relying on votes from his Democrat base and the likely 20 percent of Klamath citizens who, along with Keppen, support dam removal. Keppen then chastised the Herald and News for failure to investigate Linthicum's filing. Who believes the newspaper did not vigorously explore that issue? The Secretary of State's Election Division has stated emphatically and repeatedly that nothing illegal, unethical, or even unusual occurred. During the primary election campaign, write-in candidates and their supporters outspent Linthicum by nearly four to one. Nevertheless, nearly 80 percent of Republican voters selected Linthicum as their Senate District 28 candidate. Linthicum also won the Independent Party nomination even though Kepple's write-in campaign was focused on winning the Independent Party. Kepple was not forced to run as a Democrat. The former Democrat was selected to run by his Democrat peers. Tim Roberts Dairy
