Enviros now going after
groundwater
Now that the government, on behalf of the
environmental community, has successfully
started the domino effect of taking farmers'
surface water they are now using the
negotiation on the water bond to set the
table to control your groundwater rights
(read below).
The statement below that California is
unique in not controlling groundwater is
not true as there are states that do and
others like California that don't.
As farmers run out of surface water their
only choice in trying to survive is to use
their groundwater. If this is controlled
by the California State Legislature and
not locally then ag will be fighting for
its survival.
Our guess is that if the legislation
passes with groundwater regulation the
State will immediately set up a regulatory
agency to start controlling groundwater
but the new dams and groundwater banks
projects in the bond will take years and
the enviros will block them at every
turn.
