California counties remain high.
Statewide, Modoc had the 47th highest unemployment rate
Unemployment rates showed
slight decreases in both Modoc and Siskiyou counties in
February, based on figures from the California Employment
Development Department.
The Siskiyou County rate dropped from 12.7 percent in January to 12.4 percent in February, while the decrease in Modoc County was from 11.8 to 11.1 percent. In Modoc County, 2,810 of the 3,170 civilian work force had jobs while in Siskiyou County 15,330 of the 17,510 work force were employed. In Siskiyou County, 70 job losses were reported in farm jobs while leisure and hospitality lost 80 jobs. Other losses were in federal government, wholesale trade, information, and transportation-warehousing-utilities. The number of local government jobs increased by 30 while a smaller gain was reported in professional and business services. A major reason the unemployment rate decreased was the labor force dropped by 280.In Modoc County, small gains were reported in farming and private service providing, while slight declines were experienced in local government. Statewide, Modoc had the 47th highest unemployment rate while Siskiyou was the 52nd highest. Colusa County again ranked 58th with a state-high unemployment rate of 22.7 percent.
