Klamath Falls has the rare opportunity to attend a Department of Energy Siting Council meeting at Oregon Institute of Technology April 6 at 9 a.m., which is open to the public.

The first part of the agenda is dedicated to the Klamath Bioenergy (KBE) Project along Highway 66, where the project stands in the siting process and the next steps in the process.

The Council will tour the proposed site along Highway 66 and see the myriad problems associated with the site firsthand, including its proximity to dozens of residences who will be forced to live with the health and traffic consequences of the proposed site for decades to come.

It is important that Klamath Falls citizens who are concerned about the drastic negative impacts and hidden costs of the site to our community attend and show solidarity for opposition to the proposed site.

It is of utmost importance that the proposed KBE project be moved — otherwise a precedent will be set for use of the entire Klamath River Basin for heavy industries which will prevent Klamath from building up its image which could enhance its livability and future economic development.
