Meeting 6/27 for Mark Up of
Bills - Important!
Hi Jacqui,
I haven't had a chance to really
review the bills for mark-up - just
found them today, but the
yellow-highlighted ones seem
significant - will be looking them
over.
I've attached a list of members of
the Senate Committee on Indian
Affairs, and the House Natural
Resource Subcommittee on Insular and
Indian Affairs. These are the two
congressional committees that review
all things specific to federal
Indian policy, - and/or the House
Natural Resource Committee folks
also look at water and natural
resource issues.
There is a mailing address at the
bottom of each of the lists.
The best advice I can give to folks
wanting to comment would be to go
to: 1) www.senate.gov; or 2)
www.house.gov and locate the Bill
Sponsor - then email the comments
directly to that bill's sponsor, and
or any other federal elected
officials that should be copied in.

Hello
Colleagues,
I received an
email notice
from the House
Natural Resource
Committee of an
upcoming meeting
(June 27th) to
"Mark Up"
Certain bills
moving through
Congress. The
list of bills is
below, and
attached for
your perusal,
and need for
comments. A few
of them are very
disturbing and I
think we need to
weigh in with
comments. In
just a cursory
review of this
list, I've
highlighted
what, in my
view, seems
troubling. H.R.
597 is most
troubling
because allowing
Congress to take
land for
individual
tribes, enables
tribes to get
land into trust
that they might
not otherwise be
able to, under
the IRA. This is
an ugly trend.
Passing this
along to get our
voices in where
it counts.
