Rancher files for commissioner seat

Tom Mallams, a rancher who has actively opposed the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement, on Friday filed to run for the Klamath County Board of Commissioners Position 1.

Currently Al Switzer, who has filed for re-election, holds the seat.

Mallams, a Republican and Beatty resident , announced at a public meeting last month he would file, citing the current Klamath County commissioners’ support for the KBRA.

Switzer and Cheryl Hukill, also running for re-election, have said they support the KBRA, but do not support dam removal.

According to his filing, Mallams graduated from Medford Senior High School and attended Southern Oregon College.

He has been elected to a number of agriculture related boards, including the Klamath Off-Project Water Users Association, Klamath County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Sprague River Water Users Association.

Mallams has advised on the Klamath Headwaters Local Advisory Committee and the Klamath County Farm Use Advisory Committee. He has served as vice-chairman of the Klamath County Republican Central Committee and as an Oregon Republican Party Delegate.

Also running for Position 1 are Dennis Jefcoat and John Garee, both Republicans.
