PacifiCorp ratepayers seek Klamath dams review

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) - PacifiCorp ratepayers have asked the California Public Utilities Commission to review spending on relicensing for Klamath River hydroelectric dams.

Ratepayers in Northern California claim the Portland-based utility has spent too much on the process and that an independent assessment is needed to determine the fate of the three dams.

Last Friday, PacifiCorp told the California Water Resources Control Board it was withdrawing an application for a water-quality permit needed to get a new operating license for the dams.

PacifiCorp said the application was withdrawn to allow more discussions about the dams with state and federal officials.
