KLAMATH SALMON MEDIA COLLABORATIVE For Immediate Release: December 13, 2006 Contact: Nurelle Harrigan, KSMC (530) 627-3202, (201) 562-7403 NEW KLAMATH MOVIE AIRING ON MCTV Ashland, OR – Rouge Valley Community Television will begin airing the new Klamath-Salmon Media Collaborative movie; Solving the Klamath Crisis: Keeping Farms and Fish Alive. Public Access channel 15-95 is airing it Saturdays at 9pm. RVTV channel 9 will be showing the film every Thursday at 7pm starting December 21. Solving the Klamath Crisis takes an in-depth look at the roles dams play in the decline of the Klamath River Salmon and rural communities. The fishing and farming communities of the Klamath River Basin are stuck in a rotating crisis whereby one year fishing is restricted and the next irrigation is curtailed. The dam owner, billionaire Warren Buffet’s PacifiCorp, has not been held accountable for their impacts to the river and the rural communities that depend on it. With the relicensing of the Klamath dams, Klamath Basin communities have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dramatically improve the health of the river by removing dams that have outlived their use. Solving the Klamath Crisis chronicles the struggle of Tribes, farmers, and fishermen who are tires of the endless court battles and rivalry, and are now working together on lasting solutions to recourse issues in the Klamath Basin. |
