Rep. Whitsett Announces Interim
Committee Appointments
Salem, OR—Committee
appointments have been officially announced for the
2015-16 interim period between the adjournment of the
recent regular session and the start of the next one in
February.
Rep. Gail Whitsett (R-Klamath Falls) was
assigned to a series of committees that will consider
issues important to the residents of House District 56,
which she represents, as well as people from all over
Oregon. They include:
House Agriculture and Natural
Resources—Issues are
considered in this committee relating to farming,
ranching, water and other matters that are critical to
rural areas such as the Klamath Basin. It is chaired by
Rep. Brad Witt (D-Clatskanie). The vice chairs are Rep.
Wayne Krieger (R-Gold Beach) and Rep. Susan McLain
(D-Hillsboro). Also serving on the committee are Rep.
Greg Barreto (R-Cove), Rep. Sal Esquivel (R-Medford),
Rep. Lew Frederick (D-Portland), Rep. Chris Gorsek
(D-Troutdale) and Caddy McKeown (D-Coos Bay).
House Revenue—This
committee implements revenue policies that affect
businesses and individual taxpayers. All bills that
increase revenue must originate in the House, and
generally begin in this committee. Rep. Phil Barnhart
(D-Eugene) serves as chair, Rep. Barbara Smith Warner
(D-Portland) and Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-Ontario) are the
vice chairs. The other committee members are Rep. John
Davis (R-Wilsonville), Rep. Ken Helm (D-Beaverton), Rep.
Mark Johnson (R-Hood River), Rep. Ann Lininger (D-Lake
Oswego) and Rep. Rob Nosse (D-Portland).
House Committee on Conduct—This
committee does not meet regularly, and will only
deliberate at the call of chairman Rep. Mitch Greenlick
(D-Portland). Its sole purpose is to consider the
conduct of any member of the legislative body whose
actions may be in violation of the state’s Harassment
Free Workplace Law. The other members of this committee
are Rep. Nancy Nathanson (D-Eugene) and Rep. Andy Olson
(R-Albany).
Joint Committee on Ways and Means—Considered
the most powerful committee in the Legislature, Ways and
Means develops the state’s biennial, or two-year,
budget. It has members from both the House and Senate,
including Sen. Doug Whitsett (R-Klamath Falls).
Transportation and Economic
Development Subcommittee—A
subcommittee of the full Ways and Means group, this body
studies and approves the state’s transportation
infrastructure budget and considers the Governor’s
economic development plans.
In addition to those duties, Rep.
Whitsett is also a member of the Legislature’s Emergency
Board. That body considers emergency funding requests
brought forth by the various state agencies. Sen.
Whitsett is also on the Emergency Board, and was
recently appointed to the Senate Environment and Natural
Resources Committee.
“By being on these committees, I will be
able to serve my constituents and their interests in a
variety of ways,” Rep. Whitsett said. “I look forward to
continuing my work on the multiple issues that will come
before the Legislature throughout the next several
months.”
Rep. Gail Whitsett has represented House
District 56 since 2013. The district includes Lake and
Klamath counties.
Yours Truly,
Representative Gail Whitsett
House District 56
