Potato Princess Amanda Kirby from Tulelake waves from a float
at the 68th annual Potato Festival in Merrill, Oregon. She's from a 4th
generation Klamath Basin farm family.
People come from all the neighboring towns in the Klamath
Basin to the parade, free Lions Club BarBQ, booths of crafts and potato
contests.
Potatoes have been one of the major crops grown in the
Klamath Project. In 2000 there were 12,764 acres of late potatoes yielding
6,374,848 CWT at $4.13/CWT totaling $26,328,122 gross sales.
