 - Salmon fishermen off the California coast will be able to take more fish this year, according to three potential limits being considered by the Pacific Fishery Management Council.

Even the most restrictive option would allow ocean sport fisherman to keep two fish a day, up to six in a week. The season would be closed for 21 days in July.

The other two drafts of possible rules are even better for fishermen. One version would require only an 11-day closure during July, and the other would allow fishing throughout the month.

Last year, fisherman were limited to four fish a week during the early season, and all of July was closed.

Fishery experts say a strong run of Oregon coastal coho salmon is largely responsible for the looser restrictions.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council will meet in Eureka this week to consider this year's rules.
