Update on "Stop the COB"
Activities 11/21/05 by Lyn Brock After opposing the siting of the COB Energy Facility for nearly four years, the State of Oregon Supreme Court has decided in favor of the decision of the Energy Facility Siting Council, that COB LLC can be issued their permit to build this huge energy facility south of the small town of Bonanza, Oregon. So it appears as though we lost and yet we won on the water issue and the wastewater issue. We delayed the project for about two years to a point that natural gas is much more expensive. Now it appears unlikely unless gas price comes way down or electric rates go up, that this project will be feasible. Many of us worked very hard this year to do fundraising with raffle, silent auction, rummage sale, arts and crafts and other sales. We raised several thousands of dollars with those activities and a few generous folks donated a few thousand more. We have paid off a great deal of our attorney fees but still need to raise about six thousand dollars. Ten or twelve families have paid a disproportionate share of these expenses. Now I'd like to ask the rest of you to make another contribution before the end of the year so we can pay our debt to an attorney who kept his word on a limit on the costs and has written off many thousands of dollars in order to honor his agreement. Now we should honor our part and pay him in a timely manner. We received our Section 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service earlier this year so any contribution is tax deductible as a charitable contribution on Schedule A of a Form 1040, Individual Income Tax Return. Consult your tax advisor for more information. Please send your donation to: Save Our Rural Oregon P O Box 436 Bonanza, OR 97623 Thank you so much for meetings attended, letters written, your encouragement and participation in this process and prior financial support. By working together we have built a stronger community. Sincerely, Lyn Brock 541 545-1205 ________________________________________________
