Pablo Arroyave Appointed as Deputy Regional Director for Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region

Mr. Donald Glaser, Regional Director of the Bureau of Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region, today announced the appointment of Mr. Pablo Arroyave as the Deputy Regional Director effective Sunday, May 10, 2009. In his new position, Mr. Arroyave will assist the Regional Director in overseeing Reclamation's management of water projects in the Region, an area encompassing the northern two-thirds of California, most of western Nevada, and part of southern Oregon.

Mr. Arroyave will also assist the Regional Director in managing one of Reclamation's best-known projects, California's Central Valley Project (CVP). The CVP provides urban water for more than 3 million people, irrigation water to more than 3 million acres, industrial water for key economic areas of California such as the Silicon Valley, and environmental water for wildlife needs and fishery restoration, and also generates some 5.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

"With Pablo's leadership and his expertise working with a variety of groups and stakeholders, he brings to this critical position the background and commitment necessary to manage the important programs and activities of the Mid-Pacific Region," said Mr. Glaser.

Since August 2008, Mr. Arroyave served as the Assistant Regional Director (ARD) of Technical Services, a key member of the Regional Director's management team, he directly supervised the Region's technical side. Mr. Arroyave came to the ARD position from his job as the Area Manager of the Mid-Pacific Region's Klamath Basin Area Office in Klamath Falls, Oregon. A Federal employee for 17 years, Mr. Arroyave previously served as the Deputy Area Manager for the Region's Lahontan Basin Area Office in Carson City, Nevada, and as the Regional Liaison in Washington D.C. His former positions included Special Assistant to the Deputy Regional Director and Program Manager for the San Joaquin River Riparian Habitat Restoration Program. He first worked for Reclamation in the Lower Colorado Regional Office in Boulder City, Nevada.
