Comments on defeat of Blumenauer amendment
July 22, 2003
Mr. Blumenauer has been provided with more than enough information to understand the benefits of the Lease Land Farm Program. I believe his continual attacks on our community are an effort to cater to the environmental extremists. The lease lands are a long way from his district and do not adversely affect his constituency in anyway. It was inappropriate for him to introduce legislation that would have done irreparable harm from both an environmental and economic perspective. Congressmen Wally Herger, John Doolittle and Greg Walden have toured the Lease Lands and are very aware that this program mandated by the Kuchel Act is a win-win situation. The Tulelake Growers Association applauds their efforts to successfully defeat this amendment and a similar amendment proposed by Mr. Blumenauer in July 2002.
