Oregon jobless
rate remains No. 1 PORTLAND (AP)---Unemployment rose again in May, to 8.2 percent, approaching the peak of 8.4 percent reached in January 2002 and likely to keep Oregon the national leader for joblessness. Unemployment reached 8 percent in April, and the May increase was yet another signal that any economic recovery in Oregon has stalled. The Oregon jobless rate was more than a full two percentage points higher than the national rate of 6.1 percent for May, the highest unemployment rate for the United States since July 1994. |
